Covering Flux-Csf2

C sf2 is an alkaline-based, sodium-free flux. It is a smoke-generating cover flux for all aluminum alloys, especially silicon-aluminum. It is used as an exothermic cover and drossing flux for aluminum-magnesium alloys melted in reverb furnaces. C SF2 will promote an improved separation of the dross and the molten aluminum and will not lead to sodium pick-up. C SF2 is a powerful, reactive flux to improve the modification of the aluminum.

Sodium free cover fluxes are used for melting hyper-eutectic aluminum-silicon alloys (alloys containing above 12.6% of Si). Hyper-eutectic alloys are modified by phosphorus, additions of which cause refining of the primary crystals of silicon. Sodium reduces the refining effect of phosphorus in such alloys.
